During the early days of Dr Ajit’s practice in New Zealand, he found that even though most of his patients had an understanding of the importance of Ayurvedic principles and philosophy for their wellbeing and were making serious efforts to incorporate the changes in their lifestyle, diet and at other levels; they continued using products on their skin that were far removed from the principals of Ayurveda and were no where near being pure, natural and free from harmful chemicals.
At that time Dr Ajit felt strongly that there was a need for such a skin care range that truly reflected Ayurvedic principals and fulfilled the simple but very logical Ayurvedic approach towards skin care; “nothing should be applied to the skin if one cannot eat it”.
Dr Ajit had always kept the ancient Ayurvedic beauty formulations that were written within the ancient texts of Ayurveda, in the back of his mind – beauty formulations used by goddesses and ancient women for their beautification and to keep their skin looking young and fresh. Instantly he felt that those formulations were the only answer he needed to fill the gap. But the biggest challenge in front of Dr Ajit was how he was going to bring those ancient formulations into present day skincare – how he was going to fulfill today’s level of standards and expectations, without compromising the principals on which these formulations were made.
Dr Ajit shared his vision with his wife Rippan Sandhu, who has a scientific background and has always been a great supporter of Ayurvedic philosophy, and she assured him that it was possible to achieve what he was hoping for. So in 1999 Dr Ajit and his wife Rippan embarked upon the project and finally after much hard work and dedication, Ayurda was born in 2001.
From 2001 – 2003 the skincare products were used exclusively by Dr Ajit’s patients, in order to get reports and feedback from their experiences. During this clinical trail Dr Ajit realized that the skincare had lived up to their expectations. Following this success, they launched the Ayurda Skin Care range people know and love today.
Dr Ajit continues to work hard at bringing Ayurveda and the western world together.
